Nigel S. Austin is an experienced business lawyer who counsels entrepreneurs, companies and investors in a broad range of industries including luxury consumer, technology, manufacturing, fashion, food and beverage. Adept at solving complex business and legal issues, Nigel frequently advises on founder and employee equity, partnership agreements, seed, angel and venture capital financings, credit and intercreditor agreements, distribution, licensing and commercial contracts, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and other strategic transactions. Nigel often serves as outside general counsel to businesses.
Nigel was previously a partner in the Private Equity/M&A group at Proskauer Rose LLP and practiced corporate law at Kirkland & Ellis LLP where he handled domestic and international private company equity investments and leveraged buy-out transactions ranging in size from several million dollars to over $500 million.
After obtaining his law degree with honors from The London School of Economics, Nigel qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales and practiced corporate law at an international law firm in London for several years before moving to the United States in 1999. Nigel was admitted to the New York State Bar in 2001 and is licensed to practice law in the State of New York. He is a member of the Technology & Venture Law Committee of the New York State Bar Association and the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association.
Nigel was a founding board member and board chair of Romemu, a New York based center for Jewish spirituality, and has served as outside general counsel to several non-profit organizations including Repair The World.
Outside of law Nigel practices Argentine tango, yoga and tai chi.
